RRASP Curator In Residence Pilot Program Exhibition

For the past few months, Level Gallery has hosted a Curator-in-Residence program supported by RRASP. The program invited recent School of the Visual Arts graduate Eunice CHEN Yuyue to visit the studios of Rockella Space Members at both One Eyed Studios and Brown Bears Studios. The result of her research is Over-Compression, an exhibition of Rockella Space Members.

About The Exhibition

Over-Compression brings together a group of Brooklyn-based artists, whose artwork showcase their diverse identities in an oversaturated city. In the era of information overload, more data continues to be compressed into a larger and smoother appearance—an electronic screen or monitor. Through drawings, paintings, photographs, and sculptures, the artists offer new coping mechanisms for managing information overflow in both virtual and physical spaces.

Meet Eunice CHEN Yuyue, Curator-in-Residence:

Eunice CHEN Yuyue (Chongqing, China) is a curator based in New York City. She completed her M.A. in Curatorial Practice at the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2023. Previously, she received her B.S. in Accounting from Chongqing University and her M.M. in Accounting and Finance from the University of Melbourne. In 2022, she interned as a curatorial assistant at Bergen Assembly 2022 in Norway. She has previously worked and interned at the LUXELAKES A4 Art Museum in Chengdu, the Zhejiang Art Museum in Hangzhou, and TEDxCQU 2016 in Chongqing. In her curatorial practice, she is concerned about mobility labor, memory in migration and diaspora, and environmental injustice. Her exhibitions focus on how artists engage with global and local audiences through new media art in public discourses.
