RRASP Summer Pilot Program 2023
The Rockella Space Summer Pilot Program is a short-term residency program offering an opportunity for 5 local artists working in all visual arts media to create work over a 5 week period that will culminate in a two-week solo exhibition within the same space. The pilot program aims to support each artist throughout the residency period, offering a free private studio space accessible 24/7 that ranges from 100-250 sqft. We are specifically looking for artists who create works that will uniquely activate or transform the space within a site-specific context or are in the middle of a project that just needs a studio space to complete the work to exhibition-ready standard. We are also interested in reading project proposals from artists who may primarily work in one medium but would like the opportunity to experiment with another. For example, a painter who has an idea for an installation but has not given themselves the space to experiment.
The aim of the program is to invest time in supporting local and underrepresented individual artists in need of studio space with the ultimate goal of making the program an annual event. Throughout the program, artists will be given numerous opportunities to share their work with the public. Artist talks, Open Studios, and an Instagram takeover will be scheduled during the residency period. The pilot program will be housed at One Eyed Studios, one of Rockella Spaces buildings in Ridgewood, Queens.
Beginning August 1st and followed by a two-week solo exhibition in September, artists are required to spend more than 20 hours per week in their spaces during the residency period and participate in all public programming. Artists are responsible for returning the workspace to its original state as received upon arrival. Technical or installation help is not available during the residency period or exhibition. Nor is accommodation for artists who do not reside in NYC. Artists must reside in NYC at the time of the application process and for the term of the residency. Studios will be allocated to each artist by Rockella Space Team. Not all studios have windows but most have access to natural light via our unique skylight system. Applicants may not be a resident artist in another studio program at the same time.

Residency Dates: August 1st – September 7th, 2023
Artist Talk: 6-9pm, August 3rd, 2023
Open Studios: 1-5pm, August 20th, 2023
Exhibition Period: September 8th – September 27th, 2023
Move Out: September 28th – 30th, 2023
